The diverse nature of Tiirismaa is of national value. The forest trails follow the contours of the terrain and when you reach the highest point, you are 223 meters above sea level. The views vary and nature shows its best sides along the way. You will feel comfortable and well in the forest.

The Tiirismaa tour is a hiking trail of just under 5 km long, which runs through very varied terrain and there are many interesting natural sites along the way. In the west, you can admire Lake Iso Tiilijärvi from a viewpoint named Tilkki's peek. When returning to the trail from the viewpoint, you enter the forest and as you climb the hill, after rain, you can hear the babbling of an underground stream beneath your feet. At the highest point of the trail, you can fry sausages at the Marta maja lean-to, and in the northeast, you can admire the Pirunpesä rock crevice. The difference in elevation along the trail is about 70 meters. There is climbing and it is worth it.

Tiirismaa is a great geological site. Part of the peak of Tiirismaa has never been under water, the approximately 120,000-year-old rock crevice Pirunpesä has been a tourist destination since the 19th century, and the terrain is full of quartzite, Finland's strongest rock type.

Salpausselkä Geopark destination

The Devil's Den in Hollola is a gorge cutting through the quartzite bedrock of Tiirismaa, with vertical walls up to 20 meters high. This impressive natural formation has been a well-known attraction since the 19th century. The Tiirismaa rock area has been declared to be of nationally high value, and it is one of the most significant sites in the Salpausselkä Geopark. The rock fissure was created in one of the weak zones of the Tiirismaa bedrock, where the rock material has cracked and broken over time. At the end of the ice age, about 12,000 years ago, the southern edge of the continental glacier blocked a glacial lake formed from the meltwater of the glacier to the north of the Tiirismaa rocks.

The Devil's Nest and Marta's House

Martan Maja lean-to is located in Tiirismaa, at an altitude of 220 meters, surrounded by the valuable nature of Pirunpesä. Pirunpesä in Hollola is a gorge cutting through the quartzite bedrock of Tiirismaa, with vertical walls up to 20 meters high.

When descending back into the forest, on a rainy day you can hear the murmur of an underground stream. On the other hand, at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level, you can fry sausages in Marta's hut. The Pirunpesä rock crack with its pond also happens to be along the route.

The climb to Tiirismaa was my favorite landscape. Green fairy forest. Small lean-to, fire pit and table and benches. I sat under the roof of the lean-to with coffee and snacks. A very nice place. Despite the gray weather, I enjoyed myself for a good while at the lean-to.
