Tiirismaa tour – 4,9 km
Last updated: 08.07.2024Let's go to the forest
The nature site is quite special, and in addition, in rainy weather, you can experience a very unique phenomenon here: you can hear the gurgling of an underground stream as the drops fall from the spruce branches down onto the peat bogs.

Tiirismaa's diverse nature is nationally valuable. The forest paths follow the contours of the terrain and when you reach the highest point, you stand at a height of 223 meters above sea level. The views vary and nature presents its best aspects along the way. You feel comfortable and well in the forest.
The Tiirismaa tour is just under 5 km long hiking route that goes through very varied terrain and there are many interesting natural sites along the way. In the west, you can admire Isa Tiilijärvi from the viewpoint, which is named Tilk's peek. When returning to the trail from the lookout point, you step into the forest, and when you climb the hill, after the rain, you might hear the gurgling of an underground stream under your feet. At the highest point of the route, you can fry sausages in Marta's hut, and in the northeast you can admire the rock fissure of Pirunpesä. The height difference along the route is about 70 meters. There is climbing and it is worth it.

Tiirismaa is a great geological site. Part of Tiirisma's peak has never been under water, Pirunpesä, a 120-year-old rock fissure, has been a tourist destination since the 000th century, and the terrain is full of Finland's strongest rock type, quartzite.

Salpauselkä Geopark destination
Pirunpesä in Hollola is a gorge cutting through the quartzite bedrock of Tiirismaa, with vertical walls up to 20 meters high. This impressive natural formation has been a well-known attraction since the 1800th century. The Tiirismaa rock area has been found to be very valuable nationally, and it is one of the most significant sites in Salpauselkä Geopark. The rock fissure has arisen in one of the weak zones of Tiirisma's bedrock, where the stone material has cracked and broken over time. At the end of the ice age, about 12 years ago, the southern edge of the continental glacier blocked the ice lake formed by the meltwater of the glacier on the north side of the cliffs of Tiirisma.

The Devil's Nest and Marta's House
Martan Maja laavu is located in Tiirismaa, at an altitude of 220 meters, surrounded by the precious nature of Pirunpesa. Pirunpesä in Hollola is a gorge cutting through the quartzite bedrock of Tiirismaa, with vertical walls up to 20 meters high.
When descending back into the forest, on a rainy day you can hear the murmur of an underground stream. On the other hand, at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level, you can fry sausages in Marta's hut. The Pirunpesä rock crack with its pond also happens to be along the route.
The climb to Tiirismaa was my favorite landscape. A green fairytale forest. Small porch, fireplace and table and benches. I sat under the roof of the porch with coffee and snack bread. A very nice place. Despite the gray weather, I had a good time on the porch.
