Salpausselkä pass – 15,7 km

Last updated: 15.07.2024

The Salpausselkä Suoreitti runs through the landscapes of three very different bogs.

The route meanders along forest paths, flat outdoor paths and tall trees for a distance of 15,7 kilometers. The westernmost swamp of the route is bordering Iso-Tiilijärvi Soisalmenswamp, which is like a gateway to the atmosphere of Lapland. In the middle of Suoreitti is long and narrow Buttock Swamp, which the drainages have turned into a swamp forest. As you go north, you will come across a lovely spot along the route Baggage Swamp. The diverse route passes through nature reserves in some places. Please remember to respect nature when moving in the area. During ski weather, the pistes of the route are calmed down for skiers.

Soisalmensuo

Soisalmensuo belongs to the Natura 2000 network. It is an oasis swamp, as is typical for southern Finland, whose center is higher than its edges. The center is a wet and treeless neva, and the peripheral parts are pine-dominated scrub. While walking along the pine trees, you will come across an island growing from spruce in the middle of the bog, where there is also a place to rest, where it is good to have a snack, for example.

The Kintterönsuo conservation area consists of a pine- and spruce-dominant canopy forest and ridge groves on the slopes. The Kintterönsuo conservation area was established in 2018 and its area is approximately 74 hectares.

Baggage Swamp

Hakalaukunsuo is a beautiful, small natural oasis in Hollola. Hakalaukunsuo, a swamp with an area of about 2,5 hectares, is partially wooded and partially wooded open swamp.
