Salpauselkä Geopark site
Did you know: In Finland, there are so many skunks in the terrain of edge formations and ridges that, in addition to the land of thousands of lakes, we could also talk about the land of a thousand skunks.

Supa are one of the clearest traces left by the Ice Age. They were formed when large boulders came off during the melting phase of the continental glacier. The ice blocks were buried in the gravel and sand deposited by the melting waters. When the ice melted, the soil around them sank at the boulders, creating a bumpy subterranean terrain. Salpa-Suppa is one of the geosites of Salpauselkä Geopark.
Sup has an interesting microclimate, because the cold air descends downwards. It can be several degrees colder at the bottom of Supa than up at the edge of Supa. You can notice the temperature difference most clearly in spring. There may still be snow and ice at the bottom of the tank, even though they have already melted elsewhere.
Born about 12 years ago and 000 meters deep, Salpa-suppa is a special geological natural site, because it is symmetrically round. What also makes Supa special is that the nature destination is very accessible: the escalators and observation platform are located in the corner on the side of the Supa health center and are best accessed from the Ystvyäkykunta track.
