Mobo orienteering course
Tiirismaan Latu ry has brought a new kind of outdoor sport to Hollola's outdoor forests - mobile orienteering. At the same time, a fixed crossing track was created in the area, which can be navigated in the traditional way with the help of a map and compass.
Mobo-suunnistus is an international online mobile navigation application. In Mobo navigation, the map is on the phone's screen and the tick is also stamped on the phone. However, you have to find the check mark by orienting yourself, so the device does not show its own location. Mobo therefore teaches "correct" map reading and navigation according to the correct navigation map.
The goal of Tiirismaa Latu is to increase the movement of families and young people in the forest with the help of this kind of novelty that is interesting to children and young people as well. The track is free for everyone to use and it is hoped that it will bring joy to other people who move in nature as well. The applications needed for the phone (QR code reader and Mobo navigation application) are both free for the user and work on all smartphones.

Good to know about outdoor ice
Making good and durable outdoor ice starts with tamping the snow. It is important to get a sufficient amount of snow under the ice to make the ice white. White ice better withstands the spring-winter sunshine, so the ice can be used for a longer spring. Freezing the field takes about a week in ideal weather, i.e. 5-10 degrees below zero. If it's over 20 degrees below zero, the ice starts to crack. The skating rink stays good as long as the temperature is at or below zero. The ice starts to soften as soon as the temperature rises to plus degrees.
Making ice on the Salpakkanka school field requires a lot from the weather. Ground ice can be made when the temperature is between 0 and -5 C.
- The freezing status of the fields and the condition of the fields are explained on the pages https://jaalle.fi/fi/hollola, which is updated by the field maintainers.
- There are 10 frozen fields in Hollola.
- The ice rinks of the Heinsuo sports center and the Kalliola school are also maintained on weekends. Other fields are maintained only on weekdays.
- The lights are turned on and the goals and benches are brought to the rink only when the rink is ready for skating.
- The freezing of the fields will continue at least until the end of February. After this, the fields are plowed until mid-March or as long as conditions allow.
You can request the standard turns of the fields from Asiointipiste Piipahlus during its opening hours.
