Art collection
Last updated: 25.10.2023The art collection of Hollola municipality is divided into the art collection of Hollola municipality, the donations of the Ruokolainen artist couple, and the old art collection of the keeper of Hämeenkoski.
The gems of the art collection are the works of local artists such as Jorma Kardén and the artworks of Mauno Hartmann. Works belonging to the art collection familiar to Dutch people include Timo Jakola's pastel paintings. The municipality's collection also includes several other works by matriculation artists as well as high-quality graphic works by, among others, Olavi Ryypö and Antti Salokantele.
The works in the art collection have been recatalogued, photographed and digitized during the spring and summer of 2020.
The aim is primarily to display the works of the art collection in the municipality's premises. We also organize short-term exhibitions by theme.
Liisa and Timo Ruokolainen's collection
In March 1982, the municipality of Hollola received a handsome art donation from artist couple Liisa and Timo Ruokolainen from Gotholola.
In the beginning, the donation collection comprised about 80 works, paintings, sculptures and graphic magazines. Liisa and Timo Ruokolainen supplemented their donation in 1991 and 1995. Currently, it already forms a collection of over a hundred works of art. The works are mainly the work of artists belonging to the Lahti Artists Association. There are only a few of Ruoko residents' own works of art in the Hollola municipality's collection.
Maija-Riitta Kallio, amanuensis of the Lahti City Museum, has written a very extensive description of the donation collection in the book A union welded together – the life and art of Liisa and Timo Ruokolainen.
"The donation collection is a cross-section of leprechaun-like art. The artists in the collection are nationally and internationally distinguished. The collection is uniform both temporally and regionally, many of its artists have also lived in Hollola at some point. The collection includes works by well-known artists such as Mauno Hartman, Reino Hietanen, Jorma Kardén, Olavi Lanu, Pentti Papinaho, Matti Koskela, Arto Pennanen and many others."
"After all, art is meant for people's pleasure." This idea of Timo Ruokolainen is still being realized in practice. Thanks to Liisa and Timo Ruokolainen's donations, the citizens of Hollola can find beauty and eye candy in Hollola's offices, schools, kindergartens and nursing homes. Liisa and Timo's wish was that the collection could be presented to the municipality in its entirety.
The artworks in the donation collection are catalogued.
