Karlux Oy's company story

The prominent location in the Paassilla business district resulted in a large order for Karlux

Karlux Oy is a domestic lighting manufacturer whose products are available through professional wholesalers. The traditional family business was founded in 1983. CEO Juha-Pekka "Jussi" Karjalainen's one-man company, founded by his father, initially operated in the village of Hiisiö in the municipality of Iiti. After the change of generation in 2004, Karjalainen first moved the company to rented premises in Lahti. When Hollolla municipality zoned the Hopeakallio and Paassilla business areas, he bought a plot of land from the latter and built his own premises for the company.

- We are still very excited about the new facilities and modern production equipment. With them, at the latest, we are now on the same line as much bigger players, Karjalainen is happy.

During Karjalainen's managing directorship, Karlux's turnover has increased tenfold since the company's early years. At the same time, the number of employees in the company has grown from one to seven.

- In the best times, we have made a turnover in a month, which was done in the early stages of the company all year. Behind the growth are skilled personnel who work with a big heart. People come to work for us to stay, Karjalainen assures.

It started with a cone lamp

Karlux, which became famous for its cone lamp, specializes in park and urban lighting. Recently, new discoveries have been made in lighting design.

Our location near Lahti's new southern VT12 ring road has been a very tangible benefit for us, because last spring, a representative of Destia, the contractor, walked in through the door and had caught our sign from the roof of the hall. He came to ask if we could manage the security lighting of the bridge at the Hollola end of the two ring roads. We eagerly got down to business! Now the bridges shine in the evenings as "Hollola red" and guide motorists to the municipality. We got the order thanks to our location and at the same time it spawned a completely new product for us, says Karjalainen.

Karjalainen says the business area of Paassilla is the best possible. The lots are spacious and Schenker, Kuljetusliike Ranta-Aho Oy (Hollola) and Kaukokiito operating in the nearby Kukonkoivu business district can easily get there from the ring road exit. They transport Karlux products to the warehouses of wholesalers all over Finland.

When eating, the people of Karlux stop at the Hollola Matkakeitaa, a stone's throw away, or at the Hollola Municipal Center, a few minutes' drive away. Lahti is also only a ten-minute drive away.

Jussi Karjalainen thanks Hollola municipality's building control for good cooperation during the construction project and LADEC's business advisor Jari Eskola for his help in applying for investment financing.

Cooperation with Hollola municipality and LADEC has been really easy and smooth. Here in Paassilla, it's really good for us to work, Karjalainen smiles.
