The municipality's highest decision-making body is the council. Hollola's council has 43 members who represent different political groups.

Council meetings are held on Monday evenings, usually at 18 p.m. The meeting schedule is on the municipality's website. The meetings are public, so you can follow them online as a live broadcast or on-site at a place to be announced separately for each meeting.

The council's agenda can be read on the municipality's website on the Tuesday before the meeting. The decisions will be posted on the website the day after the meeting.

Authority of the council

The council is responsible for the municipality's finances and operations and exercises the municipality's decision-making power. It decides which institutions there are in the municipality and how the authority and tasks are divided between trustees and office holders. The decision-making power belongs to the council, unless otherwise stipulated separately or unless the council itself has transferred its authority to other authorities of the municipality by means of the administrative rules it has established. The duties of the council are defined in Section 14 of the Municipal Act. It cannot delegate these tasks to others.

The council is elected in municipal elections

According to Section 121 of the Constitution, the municipality's administration is based on the self-government of the municipality's residents. The municipality's residents elect the municipality's highest institution, the council, in municipal elections held every four years. Municipal elections are conducted as immediate, secret and proportional. All eligible voters have equal voting rights. Eligible for election to a municipal office of trust is a person whose home municipality is the municipality in question, who has the right to vote in municipal elections in a municipality in the year in which the councilors are elected or the election to another office of trust is held and who has not been declared incompetent. According to Section 146 of the Elections Act, candidates can be nominated in municipal elections by both parties and eligible voters who have established a voter association. The next municipal elections are in 2029.
