Benefits and impacts of the eco-industrial zone

Why Nostava?

Nostava was selected as the location for the eco-industrial area based on a comparison. The Päijät-Häme Regional Council evaluated five different options as part of the preparation of the phased regional plan in 2023. The choice was made based on several factors. Above all, the environmental impact assessment, the accessibility of the area and the development potential weighed in the balance.

A location that serves logistics and business

Nostava is located at the intersection of highways 12 and 24, just 15 minutes from the center of Lahti and an hour from the capital region, Tampere and Turku. Excellent accessibility makes the area attractive to companies whose operations require efficient transportation and logistics chains.

The Lahti region offers a ready-made network of partners, subcontractors and customers. The region is also home to a technical university, several other educational institutions and research organisations that produce a skilled workforce and support innovation.

Benefit for the entire municipality

The Nostava eco-industrial area will bring concrete benefits to Hollola and the Lahti region:

  • New jobs for different industries and education levels
  • Tax revenue that can be used to finance, for example, schools, early childhood education and sports services
  • Investments in the region and vitality in village communities
  • The opportunity to develop the municipality in a sustainable way.

For the municipality, the project also means a stronger funding base for services and the opportunity to influence the type of operators that are located in the area.

Environment and responsibility are taken into account from the beginning

The choice was not based solely on economic or logistical benefits. Nostava is the most environmentally sustainable option, which emerged from an extensive EIA procedure. The planning of the area also takes into account noise, traffic, natural values and impacts on water bodies.

Operations are guided by strict licensing processes and continuous regulatory oversight. Companies are committed to safe and regulated operations throughout their entire lifecycle.

The eco-industrial area is a pioneer from the very beginning

Nostava is a pioneer in the eco-industry of the future, where materials, energy and knowledge circulate. Companies benefit from each other, and the municipality benefits in the long term.
