Support for private care and municipal supplement
Last updated: 07.02.2024Private care support is paid for a child who is in a private early childhood education chosen by the parents. Support can be received from the end of the parental allowance period until the child goes to school as a compulsory student. Child-specific private care support is paid directly to the provider of private day care: a private day care center, a family day care provider, a group family day care center, or a caregiver hired at home under an employment contract. Support for private care consists of a care allowance and a possible care allowance determined according to the family's income. Private care support and municipal supplement are applied for from Kela, and Kela is responsible for decisions and payment.
The family, which acts as the employer, takes care of the employment contract and pension payments of the caregiver hired to the home. In the case of a caregiver hired at home under an employment contract, Kela's form must be approved by the municipality.
