Flexible basic education - EVEN
Last updated: 17.05.2024Flexible basic education is organized in Hollola at the Heinsuo school. The student enrollment area is the Maakansa area and student selection is made from among those who applied.
Jopo-info is given to students at school at the beginning of March. The selection takes into account weakened school motivation, problems related to schooling, especially the problems of completing elementary school, benefiting from extended learning environments and the commitment of guardians to multiprofessional cooperation. The student must have sufficient skills to manage several TPO periods at workplaces. Versatile learning environments outside of school also require adequate social skills.
Applications for flexible basic education are made using a separate form, and based on the applications, students and their guardians are invited to an interview. Based on the applications and interviews, the interview team makes a presentation about the students, and the principal makes an administrative decision on student suspension.
Flexible basic education is intended for 9th grade students and it offers the student equal opportunities to complete compulsory education according to their requirements together with their peers. It also gives the young person the opportunity to get a basic school leaving certificate, which opens the way to further studies.
In flexible basic education, general education is given and the teacher is mainly a JOPO class teacher. Teaching can also be supported by a school entrance counselor and the school's youth worker. In addition, there is cooperation with the parish's special youth work and investigative youth work. Face-to-face teaching is given in a class format in one's own classroom or in other learning environments.
Teaching is based on the school's general curriculum, but a learning plan is made for each student or, if necessary, a personal plan for the organization of teaching, or HOJKS. Students progress according to their own study program. Different subjects are completed according to the curriculum.
Other learning environments are camp schools and study tours, where in addition to the school staff, special youth work is also involved.
Workplace learning is an emphasis area of flexible basic education. The workplace study, which lasts about 7 weeks, takes place in four periods during the school year or in otherwise agreed periods, and at that time the study takes place both at the workplace and at school. Some of the subject units are implemented during the workplace periods, integrated into appropriate subject areas.
Enhanced, long-term cooperation is carried out with the homes, which aims to engage the homes in supporting the student's studies. Forms of cooperation include family evenings, personal meetings of guardians, and phone, text message and email connections.
