Transportation to preschool
Last updated: 08.03.2024Transportation is granted for free preschool education if the child's daily journey in one direction exceeds three kilometers, or the journey otherwise becomes too difficult, stressful or dangerous for him, or there is another justified reason for the need for transportation. The need for early childhood education to supplement pre-school education limits the pre-schooler's right to transport. There is no transportation right for early childhood education that supplements pre-school education.
The municipality organizes free transportation for preschool and elementary school students or assists with transporting or escorting the student in the following cases, when the student attends a school designated by the municipality:
- the student is pre.-2. in class and his journey to school is more than 3 km long
- the student is in grades 3-9. in class and his journey to school is more than 5 km long
- the trip to school without transportation becomes too difficult, stressful or dangerous for the student, taking into account the student's age or other circumstances. The difficulty or danger of the school trip is assessed on the basis of the school chalk program and strain on the basis of an expert opinion (doctor's opinion).
If the student attends a school other than the one designated by the municipality, school travel costs will only be granted for a special reason, which may be related to health or another discretionary reason (school transport application). Attendance at schools in a foreign municipality is not supported in terms of travel costs. The city of Lahti assigns a middle school place to the students of Vesikansa. (Instructions on school transport approved by the Board of Education on 14.6.2011 June XNUMX.)
