Nature conservation areas

The diversity of species and habitat types is protected in nature reserves. In nature conservation areas, care is also taken to preserve the national landscape, cultural heritage and recreation and camping areas. Various nature conservation areas are, for example, national parks, sites in the Natura 2000 network and nature conservation areas of private lands.

In the Hollola area, water areas, marshes, and for example the Pirunpesä area with its rocks and gorges have been protected. The Kutajärvi area and Tiirismaa are sites of the Natura 2000 network. The Vitality Centres are responsible for the general promotion of nature conservation and, for example, regional biodiversity programmes, such as the METSO, HELMI and LUMO programmes. The Permit and Supervision Agency, in turn, is responsible for, among other things, the establishment of nature conservation areas, nature conservation exemption permits and nature conservation supervision.
