Air quality

Last updated: 17.01.2024

Air quality is monitored with the municipality of Hollola and the city of Lahti, as well as the facilities that are subject to environmental permits that cause air emissions in the area. The practical measurements of joint monitoring of air quality are handled by Lahti's environmental services. The current agreement on joint monitoring of air quality is valid for 2021-2026.

During the contract period, according to the monitoring plan, air quality monitoring will be carried out in Hollola in such a way that for at least three years the air quality will be continuously monitored (nitrogen oxides, respirable particles & small particles, PAH compounds) and in addition volatile organic compounds will be monitored with passive tubes every year and NO2 concentrations will be mapped using the passive method.

Real-time, hourly updated nitrogen dioxide concentrations and concentrations of respirable particles are displayed on the national air quality portal. Air quality monitoring started in Hollola in 2015, when the agreement on joint monitoring of air quality in Hollola, Lahti and Nastola between 2015 and 2020 entered into force.

Warning service for bad air quality

An air quality text message warning service is in use in Lahti and Hollola. When, based on the measurements of Lahti's environmental services, the air quality deteriorates to a level that causes health effects, a warning message is sent to those who have requested the service. The warning serves especially sensitive population groups, which may suffer health problems if the outdoor air quality deteriorates.

The warning message service is free of charge and it works on weekdays during office hours. You can order the warning service on your mobile phone by sending a message: resident bay air to the number 16130. You can stop the service by sending a message: resident close the bay air to the number 16130.
