Found animals

Last updated: 13.06.2024

According to the Order Act, dogs, cats and other domestic and pet animals must be kept on a leash in built-up areas. Animals moving loose and without the owner's contact information are interpreted as found animals.

The Animal Protection Act (Section 15) obliges municipalities to organize the temporary care of stray dogs and cats and other similar small-sized companion animals.
The found animal is cared for for 15 days, after which it is placed in a new home or euthanized. If your dog or cat goes missing, it's a good idea to ask the found animal shelters and also inform them of the missing animal's information.
