Road safety

The shared traffic safety vision of Etelä-Päijät-Häme reminds us of shared responsibility in traffic:

You and I are responsible for safe movement and we also care about others. No one needs to die or be seriously injured in traffic.

Hollola was involved in drawing up the plan for safe and wise movement in Etelä-Päijät-Häme, which was completed in 2018. In addition to the municipalities of Hollola and Kärkölä and the city of Orimattila, the Uudenmaa ELY Center, Liikenneturva and the Häme Police Department participated in the planning work. The goal of the municipalities' traffic safety work is to reduce the number of traffic accidents and make movement safer for everyone – regardless of the way of travel, age and time of movement.

In the safe and smart movement plan, common priorities for traffic safety work in South Päijät-Hämee were agreed upon:

  • Increasing responsible traffic behavior
  • Improving road safety for young people
  • Increasing the safe and independent mobility of the elderly
  • Reduction of overspeeds
  • Taking movement and traffic safety into account in the construction of new properties (schools, etc.) as early as possible
  • Reducing drunk driving in traffic
  • Improving the safety of crossing the track (level crossings and other crossings)

In Hollola, an interagency traffic safety group is responsible for the coordination of traffic safety work, whose task is to coordinate and encourage different parties to traffic safety work, bring traffic safety issues to a joint discussion, convey information on traffic safety topics and monitor the development of the municipality's traffic safety situation. The group includes representatives of the municipality, authorities and stakeholders, so that different age and active groups are taken into account. The traffic safety group meets twice a year and deals with issues and measures related to the traffic environment, traffic education and communication as well as supervision.
