On May 19, 2026, the Päijät-Häme rescue authority revoked its previous decision to allow private fireworks without notification in connection with Venetians near waterways outside built-up areas. Venetians is celebrated on the last Saturday of August.
In future, a report of Venetian fireworks must be submitted to the Päijät-Häme rescue authority no later than five days before the intended use of fireworks.
The fireworks display in the Päijät-Häme area during the closing celebration of the 2024 and 2025 cottage season, the Venetian celebration, increased disruptive behavior and official duties, as well as negative feedback from residents of the area.
– Although we informed about the matter, some fireworks users did not comply with the time and location restrictions. Fireworks were also detonated in urban areas, which caused risks, disruptive behavior and tasks for the authorities, Päijät-Häme Rescue Director Mira Leinonen says.
You can report private fireworks using an electronic form on the pelastustoimi.fi online service: Fireworks announcement
Notification of the use of fireworks must be made at least 5 days before use and the notification processing fee is 76 euros.
The police must be notified of fireworks at a public event at least 14 days in advance: Reporting a fireworks display to the police
