The self-assessment for single-family homes, which is distributed through mailboxes, addresses the dangers in the home and reminds residents of their own role in preventing fires. The purpose is for residents to review the fire safety issues in their building using the form and related materials.
The form covers issues such as evacuation safety, smoke alarms, and the use of electrical appliances and fireplaces. The accompanying guide provides instructions on, among other things, storing flammable materials, using the sauna, marking the property's address, and what to do in an emergency.
– Small properties in Päijät-Häme are monitored every ten years, meaning that every owner of a detached house receives mail once every ten years. The monitoring that has now started only applies to those properties that have received a letter, Risk Management Manager Marjo Oksanen Päijät-Häme rescue service says.
Fire safety self-assessment forms for single-family homes are sent annually to 10 percent of single-family homes in the area. The rescue service monitors the returned self-assessment forms. If the self-assessment is not answered, the rescue service will perform a fire inspection of the property. Monitoring is carried out by telephone, email or through inspection visits.
Fire safety self-assessments of leisure properties, terraced houses and apartment buildings will be carried out in the spring.
If you are not part of this year's inspection, but would like to review the safety issues of your own property,
