The Heart of Fire Award is given in recognition of valuable and heartfelt work in the NouHätä! campaign. This year's awardees have aroused special appreciation for their long-term, exemplary work that inspires young people.
Long-term safety work in Hollola's basic education
Tuuli Talvitie has long been responsible for safety education in Hollola's upper classes and participation in the NouHätä! campaign. Under her coordination, safety skills are systematically taught:
- In health education, students gain versatile skills to act in various rescue situations.
- in the annual NouHätä! training, which is organized for all 8th graders at Heinsuo and Salpakankaa schools in cooperation with the Päijät-Häme rescue service
- By participating in the NouHätä! competition
This year, the preliminary rounds of the NouHätä! competition were organized digitally at Salpakankaa School on Monday, February 2, 2026, and at Heinsuo School on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
In the competition, students will be able to test their skills in, among other things, accident prevention, first aid and firefighting. The six best teams from Päijät-Häme will advance to the regional qualifiers on March 18.3. The winner will continue to the finals in Kuopio on April 23.4. Hollola's best previous competition placement is Salpakankaa School's 2nd place in 2023.
NouHätä! – over 40,000 young people participate annually
NouHätä! is being organized for the 30th time this school year. The campaign is implemented in cooperation with rescue services, rescue associations, the Finnish Fire Service Institute and comprehensive schools. The Fire Protection Fund supports the implementation of the campaign. The campaign reaches over 40,000 eighth-graders annually, and its goal is to teach young people how to prevent dangerous situations and act correctly in emergency and accident situations.
