During the summer, participants searched for and eliminated harmful lupines and giant balsams in game areas designated by the municipality.

A total of 40 liters of Spanish snails were collected in Hämeenkoski during the summer, for which a big thank you to the collectors. The participants collected the snails from the terrain, killed them according to the instructions and placed them in the collection containers intended for them. The aim of the control is to reduce the number and spread of harmful alien species in the area.

The results reflect several years of work

Crowdsorsa-assisted alien species control was organized in Hollola for the second summer in a row. This summer, 10,122 square meters more alien species were controlled than last year.

The Crowdsorsa mobile game allows residents to participate in the protection of their local nature. Participants are paid a monetary reward for their quality management-approved prevention work.

This summer, participants in Hollola were awarded a total of just over 2,800 euros in rewards, of which 5,5 percent was allocated to the control of Spanish hornets. The most active participant in Hollola earned 663 euros during the summer. The next most efficient participants earned 265 euros, 224 euros, and 200 euros from the control efforts.
The age range of the participants was 13–68 years. Happily, young people, especially 14–15 year olds, were the most active participants.

– A big thank you to everyone who participated this summer. Every area cleared and Spanish ruetana collected is a concrete act for the benefit of local biodiversity. It’s great to see how much residents can achieve together, says Crowdsorsa CEO Toni Paju.

The goal is to continue crowd-sourced control in Hollola next year as well.
