The evaluation survey of early childhood education and preschool education in the municipalities of Päijät-Häme was carried out in late 2025. The activities were evaluated by children, guardians and staff. All respondent groups believe that safe and warm interaction is a strength. Regionally, the documentation of activities, daily meetings with guardians and a less rushed atmosphere were identified as areas for development.

The guardians answered the survey electronically and the children evaluated their activities by playing the game Seikkaillen Päijät-Hämeessa. In addition, children over three years old were able to answer a few questions with their guardians in connection with the guardians' survey. The staff evaluated their activities using the national digital early childhood education evaluation system, Valssi.

Based on the evaluation results, the municipalities will continue to develop pre-school and early childhood education activities. Asikkala, Hartola, Heinola, Hollola, Iitti, Kärkölä, Lahti, Orimattila, Padasjoki and Sysmä participated in the evaluation.

Hollola survey results

In Hollola, 171 guardians responded to the survey. According to the survey results, guardians evaluated Hollola's early childhood education and preschool positively. Thanks were given in particular for the good atmosphere and cooperation, friendly encounters and goal-oriented activities. Guardians highlighted that they can discuss matters with the staff in confidence. In addition, guardians feel that the child has friends in early childhood education and preschool. The guardians' responses showed that the early childhood education place was organized from the time needed by the families and from the desired area. The guardians identified communication as a development target; the staff wanted more detailed information about the child's daily routine and information about the implementation of the matters recorded in the child's early childhood education plan/preschool learning discussion. Thank you for your responses - we will continue to develop our operations based on these.

The children are also satisfied with the early childhood education in Hollola. Some of the children thought that there was no need for changes. Some even thought: “Everything is perfect”. In addition to the wish for “A few more cat coloring pages”, the children also wished for longer playtime and more favorite foods. Children feel that adults in early childhood education and preschool are safe and receive help when they need it: “They are friendly”, “They hold your hand if you don’t know where to go”, “They are really good at playing at home”, “They bring us safety when we are outside”.

Children are allowed to do things that interest them and the most common responses were about a variety of different games, but outdoor activities, exercise and trips are also enjoyable. In their responses, the children highlighted that they have friends and that their friends are nice! Play became a central part of friendships.

In early childhood education and preschool education, the assessment of children was carried out using the game Seikkaillen Päijät-Häme. The assessments of children and staff focused on linguistic interaction. Based on these, safe and encouraging interaction and individual encounters with children emerged as key strengths in early childhood education and preschool education in Hollola. We have a linguistically rich everyday life, which utilizes play, and literature and other materials are used in a variety of ways. The areas for development included increasing reading aloud and including children's own stories produced by different methods in the activities more than before.
